In the Community

Social responsibility and the importance of giving back to our community is the foundation of DelMonte Hotel Group’s core values. Beginning with Founder, Ernest J. Del Monte, who was a proud supporter of the Rochester community spanning the growing medical and educational fields. In 2001, Ernest gifted the Rochester Marriott Thurway Hotel (now named Rochester Institute of Technology Inn and Conference Center to the Rochester Institute of Technology), to assist in the university’s growing need for additional student housing and also, offer co-op positions for RIT hospitality and service management majors will be available at the facility.

Deemed a University of Rochester Life Trustee, Ernest and his wife, Thelma, would go on to gift the University of Rochester $10 million to support the study of Neuroscience Research. With this generous support, The University of Rochester Medical Center was able to fund The Del Monte Institute for Neuroscience-one of the nation’s leading centers for research and care in neurobiology and neurological disorders.

His son, John DelMonte, CEO, and grandson, Alex DelMonte, President, has continued DelMonte Hotel Group’s philanthropic traditions. John is an active, highly-respected leader and advocate of numerous hospitality, business and civic organizations. He has held honorary chairs for the Boys and Girls Club, sat on the medical board at Strong Hospital. and currently sits on the Board of Directors of the Education Success Network.

Alex is a proud advocate for Habitat for Humanity and currently sits on the Board of Directors of Encompass: Resources for Learning. Under John and Alex, DelMonte Hotel Group has partnered with Arc of Monroe in Adult Project Search, a business-led internship service that teaches participants relevant, marketable employment skills while immersing them in a community business environment. Participants complete their internship rotations at four different Del Monte hotel locations including Del Monte Lodge, Courtyard Brighton, Hilton Garden Inn at College Town, and the Rochester Airport Marriott Hotel.

Our Corporate office has participated in Chase’s Corporate Challenge and annually sponsor wrapping events with Full Circle Home, a not-for-profit organization that connects deployed service members with their loved ones across the country and on bases around the world.
